The colours are almost aggressively beautiful. The children will run from one installation to the next, unable to decide what to photograph first.
Then Global Village — where 90 countries set up pavilions in a vast outdoor festival of food, culture, entertainment and shopping. Street performers, fairground rides, international cuisine, and enough stimulation to keep the whole family happily wandering for hours.
Tuesday, 30 December
Two nights before New Year's Eve, Dubai starts to build the atmosphere — and tonight your family experiences it from the best possible vantage point.
The Lotus Mega Yacht carries you out onto the Arabian Gulf as the city begins to sparkle around you. Dinner is served as the Burj Al Arab, the Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai Marina slide past. The children press their faces against the railing, watching the skyline. The adults pour something celebratory.

Wednesday, 31 December — New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve begins with wonder — and ends with the most famous fireworks display on earth.
The morning takes you to AYA Universe — a digital art world where rooms respond to movement and light surrounds you completely. Children walk through it wide-eyed. Then the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo inside the Dubai Mall — sharks, rays and thousands of species in a tank so enormous you walk through a tunnel underneath it.
Then the wait for midnight. The Burj Khalifa. The fireworks the whole world watches on television every year. Your family watches them live. Happy New Year.
