This Independence weekend, Uganda's most iconic national park is calling. And the lodge waiting for you there is something special.

Perched on the Mweya Peninsula, where the Kazinga Channel meets Lake Edward and the savannah stretches to the Rwenzori Mountains on the horizon, Acacia Wilderness Mweya is one of Uganda's finest safari lodges — and this October, it is your home for four extraordinary days.

Queen Elizabeth National Park needs no introduction to Ugandans. Tree-climbing lions. Hippo-filled channels. Hundreds of bird species. Elephants moving across the open plains. But experiencing it from Acacia Wilderness — with campfires crackling every evening, full-board meals that match the views, and a team that knows this park intimately — is something else entirely.

This is Uganda at its absolute finest. And it's yours this Independence weekend.

Day 1 — Wednesday: Kampala to the Wild

Wednesday, 08 October

Leave Kampala and head southwest — the road to Queen Elizabeth is one of Uganda's great drives, the landscape opening and changing as you climb towards the Rift Valley. En route, lunch is served at a carefully chosen stopover, giving you time to stretch and savour the journey.

By afternoon, the Mweya Peninsula appears — and the moment you arrive at Acacia Wilderness Mweya, you understand what makes this lodge different. The setting. The calm. The sense that you have arrived somewhere that was built for exactly this.

Check in, take your room, and make your way to the terrace. The Kazinga Channel is right there. The hippos are already busy. The Independence weekend has officially begun.

Day 2 — Thursday: The Park in Full

Thursday, 09 October

Dawn brings the guided game drive — out into the park as the light turns golden over the savannah. Queen Elizabeth's elephant, buffalo, Uganda kob, warthog and extraordinary birdlife await, guided by someone who knows every corner of this park.

The afternoon belongs to the safari boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel — one of the finest wildlife experiences in Uganda. The channel teems with hippos, crocodiles, elephants coming to drink, and an astonishing variety of birds lining the banks. The boat moves slowly, close to the water, and the wildlife comes to you.

As the sun begins to descend, the sundowner cocktail is served — Acacia Wilderness style, with the Rwenzoris glowing on the horizon and the channel shimmering below.

Then the campfire. Every evening at Acacia Wilderness, the fire is lit — and the night becomes something to gather around.

Day 3 — Friday: Twin Lakes & the Wild at Your Pace

Friday, 10 October

This morning takes you to the Twin Lakes — Lakes Katwe and Munyanyange, the volcanic crater lakes that sit within the park. Lake Katwe has been mined for salt for centuries — one of Uganda's oldest industries, still active today. The landscape here is otherworldly, ancient, and utterly unlike anything else in the country.

The afternoon is yours entirely. Perhaps a walk along the peninsula. Perhaps another hour on the terrace watching the hippos negotiate the channel below. Perhaps simply sitting still in a place this beautiful and letting Uganda do what it does best.

Another campfire. Another sky full of stars over the Rift Valley.

Optional: Cocktails in the Wild — UGX 60,000 per person  |  Bush Breakfast — UGX 80,000 per person

Day 4 — Saturday: One Last Morning at Mweya

Saturday, 11 October

A final full-board breakfast with the Kazinga Channel below and the Rwenzoris behind you. Take one last walk to the water's edge. Let the lodge have its farewell moment — it has earned it.

Then the drive back to Kampala, full of game drive photographs, campfire memories, and the particular satisfaction of having spent Uganda's Independence weekend exactly where you should have been.

In Uganda. In the wild. At Acacia Wilderness Mweya.
